Curriculum
The MSSI degree is 45-credit degree program grounded in a 36-credit professional core.
For students wishing to pursue an initial Preliminary Level I: Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as a component of the degree, a 12-week student teaching field experience is required and becomes a component of the professional core.
Students who prefer to teach in a departmentalized classroom such as those found in most middle schools and high schools may opt to obtain the California Single Subject Teaching Credential (in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Science, English, General Science, Mathematics or Physics), rather than the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. This is contingent upon the student's appropriate fulfillment of the approved Subject Matter Program (SMA) for California in their particular content area.
The nine remaining credits required to complete the Master's Degree can be taken in one of three areas of concentration:
- School Leadership
- Instructional Technology
- Students with Exceptionalities
The MSSI program offers hybrid or blended delivery, with courses offered both online and in class. Students attend class one evening per week and complete the remainder of the coursework through self-directed asynchronous multi-media experiences.
