Admissions

Drexel's EdD in Educational Leadership and Management is a rigorous and demanding program that requires dedication and a significant time commitment. We welcome motivated, achievement-driven individuals with an interest in advancing the educational environment for a progressive new generation of organizations.

Our goal is to provide an exceptional educational experience for our doctoral students. The application response to our Sacramento EdD program has been significant and student qualifications are diverse. Consequently, we build cohorts by hand-selecting students with the greatest potential to optimize his/her experience in the program and in preparation for future careers. Because our applicants have diverse academic and life experiences, we provide an opportunity for each candidate to submit additional materials that specifically support their candidacy. Once we receive your completed application, we may arrange for an interview with our program director.

Application Requirements for New Applicants

  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended verifying completion of a master's degree in education or an appropriate field and undergraduate degree in an appropriate major
  • Résumé indicating at least 3 years of work experience relevant to applicant's professional goals
  • Three letters of recommendation - Use the Electronic Letter of Recommendation Form to submit your recommendation letters
  • Essay - Discuss your professional goals and aspirations, including how your current skills, along with advanced study of educational leadership, will be of support in the attainment of those goals.
  • Writing sample - Submit a 5- to 30-page writing sample that demonstrates your writing abilities and potential success in the program. Examples include, but are not limited to, a journal article, a paper written for a class, or a manual or technical report.

Supplemental Application Materials for New Applicants

To make your application more competitive, you are encouraged to submit TWO or more of the following items:

  • Detailed statement describing sustained Leadership Activities
  • Detailed statement describing significant Creative Activities/Products
  • Detailed statement describing significant Research Activities/Publications
  • GRE or MAT scores

* Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Program acceptance will begin on July 18, 2011 to highly qualified applicants. All other completed applications received from July 19, 2011 through August 26, 2011 will be reviewed and offered admission if the candidates are qualified as slots remain available in the cohort. Please note that completed applications received after July 22, 2011 are at a higher risk of not having their financial aid fully processed by the start of the Fall Term, (September 29, 2011), although the University will make every effort to do so.

Application Requirements for Readmission Applicants

Students who have already taken graduate level coursework at Drexel University do not apply to the EdD through Enrollment Management but rather through the School of Education directly.

  • School of Education Drexel Student/Alumni Application to the EdD
  • Office of Graduate Studies Application for Readmission to a Graduate Program
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended other than Drexel verifying completion of a master's degree in education or an appropriate field and undergraduate degree in an appropriate major (in sealed envelopes)
  • Professional résumé indicating at least 3 years of work experience relevant to applicant's professional goals
  • Three Letters of Recommendation (in sealed envelopes)
  • Essay: A typed statement of professional goals discussing the student's professional goals and aspirations, including how his/her current skills along with advanced study of educational leadership will be of support in the attainment of those goals.
  • Writing Sample: A sample of the student's writing that the admission committee can use to evaluate the student's ability as a writer and potential success in the doctoral program. The minimum length of the sample is five pages and should not exceed 30 pages. Examples of possible writing samples include, but are not limited to, journal articles, paper from a course, or some written work product such as a manual or technical report.
