Drexel University Center for Graduate Studies students, faculty, and community partners are the beneficiaries of one million dollars' worth of cutting edge audiovisual/collaboration technology that is revolutionizing the way higher education can be delivered.
The good news?
The Center benefits not just students and faculty, but also area businesses and corporations.
Innovation For Everyone
The innovative technology is featured in Drexel's 20,000 square foot Center at One Capitol Mall, with nine classrooms of various sizes, all of which are equipped with high-end, fully integrated e-learning systems. The facility is designed for working professionals pursuing graduate degrees in the evenings as well as businesses and associations seeking high-tech meeting space during the days and on weekends.
Drexel's Center for Graduate Studies in Sacramento not only offers the best technology available, but integrates those systems in creative ways that makes them easily usable for presenters and accessible to those who cannot be physically present, allowing Drexel to deliver the right blend of in-person and on-line education that best fits a student's individual degree program.
The Center will enable live webcasting as well as recording and subsequent podcasting. Given the Sacramento region's commitment to sustainable practices, the Center provides business leaders with the tools to help them meet and learn in today's dynamic business world.
Cutting-Edge Technology
The Center is fully wired and completely wireless for our users. Features include:
- High-definition Polycom video teleconferencing that can connect Sacramento students with students in Philadelphia and beyond.
- Echo360 automated class capture system that can record lectures and convert them into podcasts and video that students can play back at their convenience.
- The Sympodium, an interactive pen display that connects to a computer and projector, giving educators the ability to write over any content in digital ink, save notes, access websites and multimedia files as well as project content onto large screens; giving faculty and students a total interactive experience.
- SmartBoards, whiteboards acting both as the projection screens and as interactive displays where faculty and students can write over applications, images or video, saving the experience for on-demand playback.
- Direct access to BlackBoard Vista, a premier e-learning management system; to Wimba LiveClassroom, a synchronous web-based collaborative classroom environment enabling students both near and far to participate live, regardless of location; and to DragonDrop, Drexel University's own award-winning content capture and publishing system.
The unique facility was designed by Drexel University's Office of Information Resources and Technology (IRT) and installed by Spinitar, a California-based audio visual system integration company.
