Dr. Raja Roy joined Drexel University in 2009. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. Dr. Roy teaches Managing Technological Innovation at the graduate level and is currently teaching MGMT 602 to the first cohort of Sacramento LEAD MBA students. His research includes the following: What explains heterogeneous firm performances during technological changes? What explains heterogeneous firm strategies during technological changes? What are the effects of firm capabilities on firm strategy during technological changes? These are the broad research questions that drive Dr. Roy’s intellectual curiosity.

Theoretically, his research builds up on Henderson and Clark’s (1990) notion of component and architectural technological changes and Christensen’s (1997) notion of sustaining and disruptive technological changes. He also relies upon Tushman and Anderson (1986) and Levinthal (1998) for the theoretical foundations of his research.

Since 2004, Dr. Roy and Dr. MB Sarkar (Temple University) have been working on building up a comprehensive database on industrial robotics industry to investigate firm strategies during technological changes. Their database consists of 3956 observations of new robot introductions or reintroductions by 170 global robot manufacturers. Several papers from this stream of research are under review in various journals.
