Sean Goggins, PhD

Assistant Professor Sean P. Goggins joined the iSchool faculty in September 2009. Dr. Goggins teaches INFO 616 Computer-Supported Co-Op Work as part of the IS program.
Dr. Goggins obtained his graduate education while working in technology leadership positions in the utility, software, medical device and publishing industries. His experience in industry shapes his approach to teaching, which also includes a recognition of the importance of student experiences, a sincere focus on relating his own experiences to students new to the field, and a first-hand appreciation of the challenges associated with working and going to school. Dr. Goggins’ research interests are centered on socio-technical systems and theory to support physically distributed small group collaboration and creativity.
Dr. Goggins holds Master of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in human resource development and software engineering (computer science) respectively. He obtained a PhD in Information Science and Technology from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
