Drexel's Center for Graduate Studies was designed to be the place where the region's leadership comes during the day to discuss the issues facing them, their businesses and the region, and where the leaders of the future come in the evenings for the state-of-the-art graduate programs that will effectively position them for success in their careers.
Facilities
Enter our Center and you will see what we mean. With furnishings appropriate to those entrusted with leadership responsibilities, the Center has ten meeting rooms/classrooms outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and connected to the world by wireless access to the Web. The three largest rooms (two of which are tiered) have Smart Boards, ceiling microphones, high-definition video conferencing, and the ability to “capture” everything that is said or written on the whiteboards; the other rooms have Smart Boards and videoconferencing via a “roll-about” unit . Captured sessions are hosted on Drexel's servers and available on a playlist for asynchronous watching or podcasting. Remote students can participate and collaborate in classes through the use of web-based live classroom tools or via standards-based video conferencing.
Designed for Success
Drexel's graduate degrees are designed for working adults. Almost all of our courses begin at or after 6:00 pm on Mondays through Thursday so that no time needs to be taken from work. (A few programs are taught in an executive, Friday-Saturday format.) If their parents or children require our students to be home or their jobs require that they be traveling, the Center's technology helps make it possible for them not to miss a class. Technology support is available 24/7 from Drexel employees in Sacramento or Philadelphia. And because the entire University is committed to the success of our Sacramento Campus, our faculty are almost always accessible to our students – in person, by phone or videoconference, or on e-mail, at times that work for the student who works.
The Sacramento Graduate Center also has a student lounge, places to gather and have a meal before class, and private spaces to handle business or personal calls.
A Blended Curriculum
Gone is the day of a professor lecturing a large class and writing on a blackboard with chalk. Today, the challenge for a professor is how to teach the specific subject matter in the best and most efficient way. Sometimes this is in person; sometimes this is on-line in a “virtual classroom”; sometimes it is in small groups, sometimes with invited guests, sometimes in the field. In general, we expect that 60 percent of the instruction will be in person and 40 percent online, and all of it enhanced by the technology for which Drexel is so well known.

Bridge to the Future Grants
Drexel is committed to helping make sure that this region is prepared for the economic turn-around that is sure to come. That means investing in today's workforce, including those whose jobs have been the victims of the current economic downturn. For those who have lost their full-time jobs, Drexel is cutting our tuition in half, for any of the programs offered at the Sacramento Graduate Center. This is just another sign of our confidence in the future of this region, and our intention to be full partners. Read More »
